Pumpkin carving tips for a spooktacular Halloween!

Carving pumpkins can be a blast with friends and family, but it’s important to keep safety in mind. Don’t let pumpkin carving be your reason for coming to see us this October!  Here are some tips for how to stay safe while creating your pumpkin carving masterpieces.

  1. Don’t carve in the dark! You can place your finished pumpkins in the dark, but keep the lights on while you’re carving.
  2. Don’t let your kids carve without adult supervision. In fact, maybe don’t let your kids carve at all.  Instead, have them draw out their design on the pumpkin for an adult to carve out.  The kids can finish the project by pulling out the seeds and pulp.
  3. Use the right tools. Don’t just assume a sharp knife is all you need.  Actually, sharp knives can be more dangerous for pumpkin carving because when they get stuck, they require more pressure to remove, which can cause a slip. Invest in a pumpkin carving kit, which includes small serrated saws, specifically made for carving!
  4. If you do cut yourself, apply pressure to the wound with a clean cloth. If pressure doesn’t slow or stop the bleeding after 15 minutes, you may need to seek medical help.  Next Level Urgent Care is equipped to handle lacerations and puncture wounds.  Visit our locations page to find the closest location to you.
